Mrs. Ada Rachel Compton, age 92 of Goldsboro, North Carolina went to her heavenly home on Saturday (August 20, 2022) at home in Goldsboro. Born November 7, 1929 in Buchanan County (Big "A" Mountain) Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Frank J. Smith and Cynthia E. Peck Smith. Ada married Walter Compton on March 10, 1950 and were married 68 years. Ada spent her early life in Southwest Virginia and later moved to Ohio where she resided for sixty-two years, prior to moving to Goldsboro, North Carolina 15 years ago. Ada was a graduate of Council High School. She was a full-time homemaker and mother to two children, a boy and girl. After her children started school, she worked at Elder Beerman & Company for several years and then worked for the JCPenney Company as Head Office Manager for 30+ years. A devoted Christian, Ada and her husband, Walter were founding members of the Huber Heights First Baptist Church in Huber Heights, OH. After moving to Goldsboro, North Carolina, Ada and Walter joined Rosewood Baptist Church. Ada was known for her delicious and desert-making skills, especially her family-famous Molasses Cake, which all knew she would bring for all family get-together events. Ada and Walter worked tirelessly raising picture perfect gardens each year which produced outstanding fruits and vegetables which were later canned and/or frozen. This produce lasted the family into the next growing season in addition to what they shared with son, Garry and daughter, Barbara and their families. Ada and Walter hosted many Holiday dinners for friends, family and relatives for many years. She would prepare the most delicious food and amazing deserts. Ada will be missed by everyone that knew her.
In addition of her parents, Ada was preceded in death by her husband, Walter G. Compton, Jr., two sisters, Dollie Compton and Marie Catlet, and three brothers-in-law Junior Compton, William Morgan and Howard Catlet.
Survivors include two children, Garry D. Compton (Barbara) of Ohio and Barbara D. Morgan (Jerry) of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Jason B. Compton (Lisa), Heather Reiss (Jason), Amy Moore (Jeffrey) and Aaron Morgan (Amber); eleven great grandchildren, Drew Compton, Tyler Compton, Evan Reiss, Caden Reiss, Sydney Reiss, Braeden Reiss, Keaton Winkler, Rylan Hobbins, Beckham Moore, Landon Morgan and Lily Morgan. She is also survived by her sister, Ruby Morgan and by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Honaker Funeral Home in Honaker, Virginia with Reverend Stephen Musick officiating. Interment will follow in the Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain, Virginia.
Pallbearers will include Drew Compton, Tyler Compton, Evan Reiss, Caden Reiss, Braeden Reiss, Keaton Winkler, Rylan Hobbins and Landon Morgan. Honorary Pallbearers will include Sydney Reiss, Beckham Moore and Lily Morgan.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home from 11am until funeral hour.
