Alice Johnson, age 77, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Sunday (May 15, 2022) in Bristol, Virginia. Born July 5, 1944 in Drill, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Evans and Nethia Johnson. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a 1963 graduate of Honaker High School and was of the Baptist faith. She had formerly been employed at Honaker Mills, at Acme Grocery for twenty-six years, and had retired from Food City. She enjoyed playing cards and visiting with family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Arvel “Peanut” Johnson and Bert Johnson, and five sisters, Ollie Shepherd, Edith Rakes, Laura Helton, Mabel Perkins, and Betty Wolford.
Survivors include two sisters, Edna Woodard and Violet Keen and husband, Don; one brother, Eugene Johnson; best friend and sister-in-law, Georgia Johnson; brother-in-law, Noah Ray Rakes; special cousins and card-playing buddies, Mutt Helton and Shirley Shortridge; special friend, Carolyn Stevens; several nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly, and many cousins and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Jeff Kinder officiating. Interment will follow in the Johnson Cemetery at Combs Ridge, Virginia.
Nephews and family will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 3 PM Wednesday at the Honaker Funeral Home.
