Obituary for Alma Jean Martin (Honaker)
Alma Martin was a beloved grandmother, mother, and wife during her incredible 92 years of life. She passed away at her home with her family by her side on the evening of Thursday, March 30, 2023. Alma Jean was born on March 31, 1930, in Honaker, Virginia. She was the tenth of twelve children born to the late Jess and Dora Honaker. Alma spent her life as a dedicated Navy wife who traveled and lived in many places throughout the United States, and then later returned to her home of Honaker, Virginia. After returning to Honaker, Alma spent her time devoted to her family, her church, and her community.
Alma was preceded in death by the love of her life, Douglas Martin. Together they shared a life
of love and became the proud parents of six children. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by all her siblings, her daughter, Debi Fry, and grandson-in-law, DeAndre Williams.
She is survived by five children: Sharon Pinder and husband, Steve, Gary Martin and wife,
Vanessa, Linda McGlothlin and husband, Keith, all of Honaker, Virginia, Randy Martin and
wife, Sandy of Lebanon, Virginia, and Dena Crabtree and husband, Paul of Virginia Beach,
Virginia; son-in-law, Gregory Fry of Honaker, Virginia.
In addition to her children and their spouses, Alma is survived by her numerous grandchildren:
Stephenie Dye, Kim Pinder (Marcus Jessee), Danielle Hayes (Nathan), Todd Fry (Rachelle),
Jennifer Fry (Jordan Compton), Miranda Hughes (Hyder), Rebecca Williams, Rachel Jenks, Laura Jenks, Stephen Martin (Dana Cornett), Chance Dye (Danielle), Evan Dye (Ashley Martin), Andrew Dye (Kristan
Funkhouser), Nicole Boggs (Dennis), Tracy Tucker (Eric), Cory Crabtree (Megan), Bryan
McGlothlin (Amanda), Kala McGlothlin, and Morgan McGlothlin (Nikki Barton). Alma is also survived by 28 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday (April 2, 2023) at Honaker Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Musick officiating. Interment will be private.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Honaker Funeral Home after 6 PM Saturday.
