Alma Tadema Whitt, age 82, of Elkton, Maryland, passed away Thursday (January 26, 2023) in Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Born May 30, 1940 in Richlands, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Omar Shoffner and Bessie Hale Whitt. She had spent her early life in the Buchanan County, Virginia area, moving to Elkton, Maryland where she made her home and raised her family. She was formerly employed in the Laundry department at Sunbridge Nursing home, where she worked for many years. She enjoyed working word puzzles and watching Jimmy Swaggert, but most of all spending time with her family whom she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Hassie Viola Ratliff, four brothers, Atwood, Junior, Kelsey, and Garmon Whitt, and her lifelong companion, Arvil “Bud” Blankenship. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include three children, Peggy Harris and husband, Roger of Asheboro, North Carolina, Steve Whitt, Sr. and wife, Tracy of Elkton, Maryland, and Robin Mosier and husband, Chris of Perryville, Maryland; grandchildren, Amanda Stoneman and husband, Steven, Jamie Terry and husband, Rob, Steve Whitt, Jr., Nikki Grady, Stephanie Whitt, Allison Sexton and husband, Josh, Casey Whitt, and Amber Coleman and husband, Jeremy; special family, Buddy Blankenship and wife, Betty; several great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Brad Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitt Cemetery at Drill, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Steven Stoneman, Chris Whitt, Jason Thomas, Danny VanDyke, Chester “Chump” Stiltner, and Stevie Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers will be Foster Bailey, Joshua Brower, Ronnie Brown, Brian Edwards, Jerry Brown, and Jeremy Coleman.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home on Tuesday from 11 AM – 1 PM.
