Obituary for Anna Jean Combs (Ray)
Mrs. Anna Jean Ray Combs, age 83, of Lebanon, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (March 9, 2022) at her home. Born January 24, 1939 in the Finney section of Russell County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Matilda Sykes Ray. She spent her early life in the area before moving to northern Virginia, moving back to the area in 1998. She had formerly been employed at Hermitage Nursing Home in Alexandria, Virginia for over thirty-two years. She was a devoted Christian and attended Spring City Baptist Church, where she enjoyed spending time with the Golden Girls Brunch Group. She was a loving mother and grandmother and some of her greatest joys came from spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over forty years, Carl Edward Combs, one daughter, Glenda Combs Van Horn, and three brothers, Curtis Ray, Hubert Ray, and George Ray. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Combs Lester and her husband, and very special son-in-law, Terry Lester; five grandchildren, Dwaine Lester, Jessica Lester Dowdy and husband, Lee, Bethany Lester Hart, Christopher Combs and wife, Amanda, ad Kenneth Combs; five great-grandchildren, Emma Lester, Harleigh Lester, Parker Hart, Tayden Combs, and Hannah Farmer; special sister-in-law, Mary Ann Ray; special friends, Sandra and Lester Tiller, Linda and Dee Sullivan, and Harriet and Roy Harris; many very special nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Divine Home Care and Home Nursing Company Hospice, especially, Samantha Lane, Wendy Griffith, Steve Fletcher, and Katie Miller.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Jeff Tiller officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Mack Ray, Jackie Ray, Junior Ray, Chris Combs, Kenneth Combs, and Lee Dowdy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Buckles, Larry Ray, Dwaine Lester, Thomas Ray, Mike Link, and Dr. Jonathan Burress.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Friday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 PM with Rev. Nathan Brown and Rev. Kirby Miller officiating.
