Obituary for Barney Everett Tiller

Mr. Barney E. Tiller, age 83, of the Wysor Valley section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Saturday (November 14, 2020) in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born November 26, 1936 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Spence and Rosa Johnson Tiller. A lifelong resident of the area, he was of the Freewill Baptist faith and was a proud member of the Democrat party. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and had served during the Korean War. A retired coal miner, he had been employed by Pittston Coal Company. He was a member of the UMWA, VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia, and the Drill Senior Citizens.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret Elswick, Martha Tiller, William “Bill” Tiller, Theodore “Teddy” Tiller, Nancy Jackson, John Henry Tiller, Lily O’Quinn, Dewey Tiller, James “Pooge” Tiller, Troy Tiller, and Ollie Tiller. In his generation, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Tiller of the home; four children, Larry Everett Tiller and wife, Laura of Council, Elaine Stapleton of Jonesville, Dana Lester and husband, Michael of Council, and Josh Tiller and wife, Ashley of Abingdon; two step-children, Christopher Brown and wife, Fallon and Dustin Brown and wife, Ashley; seven grandchildren, Chris Tiller, Kayla Stapleton, Alex Tilley, Spencer Faith Lester, Corbin Tiller, Anson Tiller, and Gage Brown; two great-grandchildren, Ivan Stapleton and Ivona Stapleton; several nieces, nephews, and many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia, with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and Rev. Wayne Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow in the Tiller Cemetery at Council, Virginia.
The gravediggers will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Curt Wilson, Don Owens, Donnie Deskins, Rooster Miller, Chris Brown, Dustin Brown and Deward Tiller.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Thursday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia.
