Obituary for Billy Gene Hess
Mr. Billy Gene Hess, age 86, of the Gardener section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Tuesday (December 20, 2022) in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born September 23, 1936 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Bill and Beulah Owens Hess. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a disabled coal miner, having been employed at Island Creek Coal, and a member of the UMWA. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-nine years, Peggy Hess; two sisters, Ollie Smith and Rosalee Tolliver; and one brother, Richard Hess.
Survivors include three children, Carolyn Fleenor of Lebanon, Sharon Herndon and husband, Paul of Swords Creek and Randall Hess of Swords Creek; two brothers, Kenneth Hess and Wayne Hess; two sisters, Bonnie Hart and Phyllis Tiller; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Gillenwalters, Arick Fleenor, Josh Herndon, and Cody Herndon; four great-grandchildren, Bryanna Gillenwalters, Alex Gillenwalters, Elijah Fleenor, and Brady Herndon also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Mike Dye officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home from 1 – 2PM Thursday.
