Brenda G. Owens-Matney, age 57, of Lebanon, Virginia, passed away Friday (February 25, 2022) at the home of her fiancé in Stuart, Virginia. Born December 19, 1964 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Goldie Owens. She had been a lifelong Virginia native and was a 1982 graduate of Garden High School. She enjoyed photography and music, but most of all loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her former spouse, Roger Matney; one son, Eric Matney and two brothers, Bennie Thomas and Bill Owens.
Survivors include her daughter, Ashley Matney-Paul and husband, Larry “L.R.” of Angier, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Alliyonna Paul, Aiden Paul and Rayana Paul all of North Carolina; one sister, Sue Charles and husband, Elden of North Carolina; brother, Gary Owens of North Carolina and Nathan Thomas of Virginia; fiancé, James Hutcheson of Stuart, Virginia and a host of friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 1 PM Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in the form of donations to the Brenda Matney Memorial Fund c/o Honaker Funeral Home P.O. Box 1620 Honaker, VA 24260.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from Noon until 1 PM Monday.
