Mr. Buford “Drew” Harris, age 84, of the Big A Mountain section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Saturday (December 18, 2021) in a Lebanon, Virginia hospital. Born April 23, 1937 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late David Henderson and Nannie Price Harris. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member and deacon at Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church. He was a disabled coal miner, having been employed by Clinchfield Coal Company, and a member of the UMWA. He enjoyed going to church and spending time with his family, whom he dearly loved.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, four sisters, and a special grandson, Samuel Rose.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Rachel Harris of the home; two daughters, Debbie Rasnake and husband, Jeff and Tammy Rose and husband, Anthony all of Council; one son, David Harris and wife, Becky of Glade Spring; special grandson, Dwayne Harris and wife, Tina of Marion; two special great-grandsons, Jase Harris and Bentley Rose; two step-great-grandsons, Landon and Austin; two step-great-great-grandchildren, Kyrin and Aunalyse; one sister, Sadie Ball of Hubert Heights, Ohio; special friends, Lewis Griffith and John Combs; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. James Sims, Rev. Virgil Musick and Rev. Denver Barton officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Lewis Griffith, Anthony Rose, Kevin Taylor, Bob Morrison, John Combs, and Earl Baldwin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Men of Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church, Roger Helton, Kenny Helton, and Nolan Harris.
Due to the recent surge in COVID cases in our area and looking after the health and well-being of others, the family requests that all in attendance wear a mask.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Monday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
