Carla Jean Sykes, age 54, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (January 26, 2022) at her home. Born June 15, 1967 in Tazewell County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Russ Clater and Jannie Ellen Gillespie Sykes. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a 1985 graduate of Honaker High School. She loved all animals, especially cats, listening to country music, baking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother; one sister, Jane Russell Musick; brother-in-law, James William Musick and fiancé, Danny Lee Penley.
Survivors include her children, Daniel Sykes and wife, Alaina of Cleveland, Virginia and Brandon Sykes and husband, Michael Bond-Sykes of Bristol, Tennessee, April Connel and husband, Doug of Rocky Mount, Virginia and Ashley Coxton of Honaker, Virginia; grandchildren, Jada Looney, Cambria Sykes, Coheed Sykes, Jack Morton, Layla Coxton, Westin Coxton, Alkaline Sykes and Jameson Connel and her special cat, Olaf.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stephen Musick officiating. Interment will follow in the Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, Virginia.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Honaker Funeral Home from 10 AM until the funeral hour.
