Obituary for Carlis McGlothlin

Mr. Carlis McGlothlin, age 79, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away on Saturday (March 14, 2020) at his home. Born April 27, 1940 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Elder Andrew and Lena Pearl Honaker McGlothlin and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. A lifelong resident of southwest Virginia, he had moved from Buchanan County to the Honaker area in 1960. He was a retired coal operator, lastly owning and operating Hiope Mining. He enjoyed farming, bear hunting and coon hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Bell Keen McGlothlin, five brothers, Wayne McGlothlin, Dallas McGlothlin, Hyder McGlothlin, Hadley McGlothlin, and Fred McGlothlin, and two sisters, Joyce McGlothlin and Vinnie McGlothlin.
Survivors include two sons, Scott McGlothlin and wife, Alicia of Honaker, and Shawn McGlothlin and wife, Cindy of Swords Creek; two daughters, Cathy Meade of the home and Bridget McFarlane of Chilhowie; five grandchildren, Ashlee Newberry and husband, Brandon, Dustin McGlothlin, Colton McFarlane, Logan McGlothlin, and Bree McFarlane; two sisters, Martha Ball and Dollie Compton and husband, Eugene; two brothers, Rean McGlothlin and wife, Faye, and Memp McGlothlin and wife, Judy; special friend, Eric Brown; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Elder Don Stacy, Elder Henry Cantrell, Elder Jim O’Quinn, and Rev. Jeff Kinder. Interment will follow in the McGlothlin Cemetery on Fletchers Ridge, Virginia.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be his bear-hunting friends.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 5:00 PM Monday.
