Obituary for Charlie James Dye

Mr. Charlie James Dye, age 72, of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Sunday (August 2, 2020) in a Bristol, Tennessee hospital. Born August 23, 1947 in Tazewell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Jency and Clara Stevens Dye. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a disabled coal miner, having formerly been employed by Virginia Pocahontas Company at VP 1, 2, and 4. He was a member of UMWA and enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeffrey McGlothlin, granddaughter, Peytyn Justus, brother, Jimmy Dye, four sisters, Dorothy Fields, Helen Hill, Johnnie Mae Dales, and Lojean Hawkins, and companion, Sharon Hodge.
Survivors include four children, Wanda Gillespie and husband, Ricky, Donna McGlothlin and husband, Burl, Bobby Dye, and Amanda Justus and husband, Donald; his former wife, Dorothy Dye; one brother, Jessie Dye; three sisters, Betty Colley, Ginger Smith and husband, Ralph, and MaryLou Dye; four grandchildren, Kristy Vandyke and husband, Cody, Keely Barkell and husband, Ty, Brant Gillespie, and Ashlyn Justus; four great-grandchildren, Rylee Vandyke, Thomas Vandyke, Slade Barkell, and Tatum Barkell; faithful K-9 companion, Sam.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Alan Tillman officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Cody Vandyke, Donald Justus, Burl McGlothlin, Johnny Burke, Adam Burke, Aaron Burke, and Brant Gillespie.
Ricky Gillespie will serve as honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home on Thursday from 1 – 2 PM.
