Obituary for Daniel Luther Cook

Daniel Luther Cook, age 62 of Abingdon, Virginia, formerly of Honaker, Virginia passed away Tuesday (February 28, 2023) in an Abingdon, Virginia hospital. Born September 12, 1960 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Walter Collington and Vernie Ellen Ball Cook. A lifelong resident of the area, he attended Lebanon United Methodist Church. He had been employed as a coal miner for many years and enjoyed motorcycles, working on cars and going to the park with his granddaughter, Emma. He was goodhearted and kind to everyone and he never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Mason Short; three brothers, Floyd Carter Cook, Dewey Robert Cook and Douglas Joel Cook.
Survivors include two children, Jonathan Short and wife, Jolena and Tiffany Hart and husband, Tyler both of Honaker, Virginia; grandchildren, Emma Hart and Blake Short; brother, Roland Walter Cook and wife, Amanda of Honaker, Virginia; sister, Helen Leathy Hale and fiancé, James Lewis of Abingdon, Virginia; special niece, Sarah Slone-Glover; son of the heart, Ronin Naples; special friends, Paul Street and Denise Street; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kirby Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Ball Cemetery at Chestnut Ridge, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Chris Cook, Robbie Cook, Shane Johnson, Jackie Taylor, DeWayne Harris and Anthony Cook.
Paul Street, Tyler Hart, Jim Lewis, Zach Sheppard, Theron Naples, and Douglas Shawn Cook will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends after 6 PM Friday where an evening song service will be conducted at 7 PM.
