Danny Lee Brown, age 77, of Swords Creek, Virginia passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 in a Bristol, Tennessee hospital. He graduated from Honaker High School in 1961 and received a B.S. from East Tennessee State University and M.S. from Radford University. Danny was kind-hearted, hard-working, and touched many lives in his 77 years. If you ever met Danny, you never left a stranger. He was a friend to many. During that time, he also served eight years on the Virginia State Board of Social Services, appointed by former Governor Mark Warner and re-appointed by former Governor Tim Kaine. In addition, he served on both the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO), the Cumberland Plateau Planning District, and the Cumberland Plateau Waste Authority.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Shirley Brown and a special nephew, Terry Brown.

In addition to his mother, Danny is survived by his wife of 55 years, Annis, three children Tim Brown and wife Dona of Port Charlotte, FL, Lisa Dye of Lebanon, VA, and Jessica Salas and husband Alex of Washington, DC; five grandchildren Dustin and Dakota Brown, Carley and Calli Dye, and Ana Salas; and three great-grandchildren Jordan, Jase, and Kaiden Brown; one brother, Roger Brown; one sister, Angela Bain.

I just found out about Danny Brown. He was my principal at Swords Creek Elementary when I went to school there. He helped me get my first teaching job at James Monroe High School in West Virginia in 2005. I was very grateful for Danny Brown. This year makes my 16 year of teaching. I am so sorry for his loss. He would help anyone.
Thank you, Lisa Perkins Brooks

I have known Danny my whole life. He was a good man. He was there for our Son James at a time when he was needed the most. Bryan and I will never forget what he did for our James. Prayers for the family. God Bless You.

Annie, Lisa and family, I will never forget having Danny as a Sociology instructor at SVCC. He made class SO enjoyable! I actually looked forward to going to class. My dad and he became friends because of politics and my Dad liked and respected him immensely. I know you all will miss him, but what memories you have!! I am thinking of you. God Bless!

Annis and family,

So sad to learn of Danny’s passing. He visited dad several times when he was healthy after mom died. Dad would love to come pay respect to the family but doesn’t walk very well and can’t really see. Please know that we will be thinking of you in the days ahead.
