Obituary for Danny Lee Brown

Danny Lee Brown, age 77, of Swords Creek, Virginia passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 in a Bristol, Tennessee hospital. Born on September 21, 1943 in Swords Creek, Virginia, he was a son of Beulah Dye Brown of Swords Creek and the late Cleo Brown. He graduated from Honaker High School in 1961 and received a B.S. from East Tennessee State University and M.S. from Radford University. Danny was kind-hearted, hard-working, and touched many lives in his 77 years. If you ever met Danny, you never left a stranger. He was a friend to many. Above all else, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

A lifelong resident of Russell County, Danny dedicated his entire life to public service. He worked for the Russell County School System for 36 years, mostly serving as Principal at Swords Creek and Givens Elementary. He was one of the longest serving Board of Supervisor members in the Commonwealth of Virginia, in office for more than three decades. During that time, he also served eight years on the Virginia State Board of Social Services, appointed by former Governor Mark Warner and re-appointed by former Governor Tim Kaine. In addition, he served on both the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO), the Cumberland Plateau Planning District, and the Cumberland Plateau Waste Authority.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Shirley Brown and a special nephew, Terry Brown.

In addition to his mother, Danny is survived by his wife of 55 years, Annis, three children Tim Brown and wife Dona of Port Charlotte, FL, Lisa Dye of Lebanon, VA, and Jessica Salas and husband Alex of Washington, DC; five grandchildren Dustin and Dakota Brown, Carley and Calli Dye, and Ana Salas; and three great-grandchildren Jordan, Jase, and Kaiden Brown; one brother, Roger Brown; one sister, Angela Bain.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday, May 25, 2021, in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Steve Perkins officiating. Visitation will begin at 6:00PM.

Pallbearers include Adam Bain, Jackson Bain, Dakota Brown, Dustin Brown, Cory Brown, Rafty Dye, Jr., Larry Miller, and Carter McGlothlin.
