Obituary for Darrel Dales

Darrel Dales, age 65, of the Miller Creek section of Swords Creek, went to be with the Lord on Monday (May 10, 2021) at his home. Born October 19, 1955 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Wade Dales and Dorothy Coleman Dales Owens. He spent most of his life in Buchanan County, moving to Russell County almost six years ago and he attended Fuller’s Chapel near his home. He was a retired coal miner and he enjoyed fishing and hunting while his health permitted.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Roy Owens; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mick and Roy Nickols, Eva and Bascom Thomas and Jean and Raymond Keen and one brother, Carl Dales.
Survivors include his loving wife, Phyllis Dales; two sons, Jonathon Dales of Pound, Virginia and Carl JR Dales and wife, Patricia of Abingdon, Virginia; two grandchildren, Whitney Dales Johnson and Jonathan Alex Dales; two step-grandsons, Charles Mitchum and Thomas Mitchum; two step-great-grandchildren, Castian Mitchum and Luna Mitchum; two brothers, Maynard Dales of Haysi, Virginia and Sonnie Dales and wife, Michelle of Mouthcard, Kentucky; six sisters, Juanita Owens of Mt. Airy, North Carolina, Audrey Ratliff and husband, Everett, Annette Browning and Bonnie Fay Shoals all of Vansant, Virginia, Jeanette Bennet of Eagle Lake, Florida and Connie Tiller of Honaker, Virginia; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Dye and Rev. Wayne Hubbard officiating. Interment will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery at Richlands, Virginia.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 10 AM until the funeral hour.
Due to COVID restrictions mandated by the governor, a mask is required.
