Obituary for Donald Lee "Duck" Looney

Mr. Donald Lee “Duck” Looney, age 76, of Ramseur, North Carolina, passed away Friday (November 11, 2022). Born September 17, 1946 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Estil and Virginia Stiltner Looney. A 1964 graduate of Garden High School, he had lived in the Buchanan County area prior to moving to North Carolina in 1991. He was a master barber, a professional glass cutter, had worked at Betsy Ross Bakery for several years, had served as a Buchanan County Deputy, and had retired from Southern Correctional Center in Troy, North Carolina. He enjoyed playing music, especially the guitar and banjo, and had played with the Whiskey River Band. He found a friend in his canine son, “Rascal” and enjoyed taking care of him and keeping each other company. He was loved by all that had the pleasure of knowing him and will be missed dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Donald Brian Looney, one brother, Tommy Looney, and his canine son, Rascal.
Survivors include two children, Bradley Steven Looney and wife, Sabrina of Cedar Bluff, Virginia and Laura Rutledge and husband, Mark of Randelman, North Carolina; one grandson, Scott Preston Looney; the mother of his children, Kathy Looney; one sister, Rhonda Looney; five step-grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, many friends, and his loving neighbors, Logan, Ashley, John and Emily Connor, Mickey and Mary Adams, and Judy Jones; special friends, Anthony and Sam and all employees of Carlie C’s.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Carl Howell officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Randy Long, Scott Looney, Paul Jackson, Spencer Whitt, Rick Shortt, and Tommy Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Long, Terry Long, Mark Rutledge, Kenny Hale, and Anthony “Pooh” Looney.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home on Wednesday from 12 – 1 PM.
