Obituary for Dr. Ralph H. Hallenbeck

Dr. Ralph Henry Hallenbeck, age 87, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Thursday (July 30, 2020) in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born January 3, 1933 in Long Island, New York, he was a son of the late Ralph Henry and Marie Bachman Hallenbeck. Dr. Hallenbeck proudly served his country in the United States Army. He began his teaching career in Long Island, New York, served as Vice-Principal and later went on to serve as principal for over thirty-three years at Glassboro School in New Jersey. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, working crossword puzzles and discussing politics. He was a member of Honaker United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Hallenbeck and one sister, Lois Hallenbeck. In his generation, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Harris Hallenbeck of the home; one daughter, Sherry Gillooly and husband, Shean of Frazer, Pennsylvania; step-daughter, Wanda Mella and husband, Tahir; step-son, Jeff O’Quinn; six step-grandchildren, Brandi O’Quinn, David O’Quinn, Jessie O’Quinn, Malorie Mella Betts, Kyle Mella and Bryn Mella; one step-great-granddaughter, Ellie Jane Mella; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to all who have shown their love and support during this difficult time and they greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 5 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Valerie Ritter officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4 PM until the funeral hour.
