Obituary for Elinda Joyce Brown (Mullins)

Elinda Joyce (Mullins) Brown of Council, Virginia was called home to her Lord on June 5th, 2020. She entered a hospital in Johnson City, Tennessee on her birthday May 28th. Born in Dickenson County in 1951, she spent most of her life in southwestern Virginia. She was a member of Duty Church of God where she served as Sunday School teacher.
While her family still here is devastated, we are certain her heavenly reunion with her parents, Cecil and Reba Mullins and her siblings, Jeanie Tiller and Michael Mullins was boisterous and joyful.
Elinda was widely known as the sweetest, most loving and generous, faithful woman. She was revered as the matriarch and peacekeeper of the family. No matter who or where a person was from or what they had done, she loved them before she even met them. Those fortunate enough to have met her knew they were loved immediately. She was the true center of our family, she filled our family and her friends with more love than anyone possibly could have.
While visiting North Carolina to watch her grandson play football she would always cheer for both teams, though a bit louder for Sebastian. At her granddaughter’s high school graduation, she clapped for every single student, though she stood for Savannah. These stories epitomize the type of person she was.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband and best friend of 49 years, James “Rooster” Brown of their home in Council; two sons: Vance Patrick Brown and wife, Jessica, and Dar Elee Brown and wife, Mandy all of Mooresville, North Carolina; stepchildren: James William Brown and wife, Cristy of Summerville, South Carolina, and Laura Lynn Brown of Fairfax; six grandchildren who she loved deeply and cherished: Savannah Brown, Sebastian Brown, Jayden Brown, Caleb Brown, Dominic Brown and Virginia Brown; four sisters: Robin Dye and husband Arthur (deceased), of Amherst, Sonya Johnson and husband, Lennie of Bristol, Selina Vance and husband Melvin of Abingdon and Edna (Edye) Gilbert and husband, Otis “Peanut” of Davenport; several nieces and nephews who brought her so much joy also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Saturday June 13th in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker Virginia with Pastor Betty Horne officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour. Services will be live streamed on the Honaker Funeral Home Facebook page for those unable to travel.
Online condolences may be made at www.honakerfuneralhome.net. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her honor to the Duty Church of God (PO Box 142 Davenport, Virginia 24239).

Rest easy Mama. Love, hugs, kisses and prayers from us. If the good Lord is willing and the creek don’t rise, we will see you again someday.
