Obituary for Ershell Steven Vance

Ershell Steven “Steve” Vance, age 64, of Jewell Ridge, Virginia passed away Wednesday (January 3, 2024) at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Virginia. Born October 12, 1959 in Richlands, Virginia, he was a son of the late Ershell Orville Columbus and Dorothy Iris Stiltner Vance. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1978 graduate of Honaker High School. He had been employed for many years as a coal miner, but had recently started his own business, Steve’s Handyman, specializing in electrical and HVAC services. He was of the Christian faith and enjoyed camping, fishing, stamp collecting, riding motorcycles, working and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lisa Kay Reynolds Vance; his maternal and paternal grandparents and two brothers, Scott Vance and Alex Thomas.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Marie Vance of Richlands, Virginia; six children, Vicki Vance Wells and husband, Gabriel of Ohio, Leeanna Marie Elder and husband, Robert Ryan of Richlands, Virginia, Tonya Marie Shortt of Richlands, Virginia, David Sylvester Woody and wife, Rhiannon “Ree” Smith of Pounding Mill, Virginia, Steven Matthew Vance and wife, Cheryl of Grundy, Virginia and Jessie Lee Woody and wife, Cynthia of Claypool Hill, Virginia; mom, Dorothy Vance of Jewell Ridge, Virginia; two sisters, Charlene Pinkerton and husband, Jerry and Sandy Dye; one brother, Kenny Thomas and wife, Marsha; twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the Richlands Rescue Squad and the staff of Clinch Valley Medical Center Emergency Department for the wonderful care they provided.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 PM until 7 PM.
