Obituary for Eura Gay Sykes (Harris)
Mrs. Eura Gay Harris Sykes, age 94, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (January 4, 2023) in a Lebanon, Virginia hospital. Born February 29, 1928 in Russell County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Eva Musick Harris. A lifelong resident of Russell County, she enjoyed gardening, canning, and loved to cook. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially the get togethers at Christmas and the 4th of July.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sykes; one daughter, Christina Kay Cabell; six brothers, Stanley Harris, Dayton Harris, Whitt Harris, Harmon Harris, Winston Harris, and Curtis Harris; and five sisters, Hazel Stinson, Iris Leonard, Jettie Hart, Lena Riley, and Martha McGlothlin.
Survivors include three sons, Jeff Sykes and wife, Valerie, Mike Sykes, and Tim Sykes and wife, Wanda all of Honaker; one daughter, Janet Stevens of Honaker; one sister, Iowa Barrie of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Stephen Gauldin and Jennifer, Jennifer Gauldin and Keithie, Abigail Sykes, John Sykes, Zack Sykes, Heather Harris and T.J., Adam Cabell and Alesha, Tyler Ray, and Brittney Cabell; great-grandchildren, Madison Wilson and Jordan, Lane Vance, Brody Vance, Liam Stevens, Landon Stevens, Austin Barnhart, Hunter Gauldin, Charlotte Gauldin, Silas Cabell, Vada Kay Cabell, Daxton Taylor, Zayden Sykes, Sydney Grace Moore, and Bentley Hale; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Steve Perkins officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Keithie Stevens, Keith Stevens, Barry Hart, Brandon Hart, David Honaker, Lane Vance, Kevin McGlothlin, and Zack Sykes.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Eura Sykes Memorial Fund, c/o Honaker Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1620, Honaker, VA 24260.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 PM Friday.
