Mrs. Fayrene Fletcher Wampler, age 86, formerly of the Hurricane Creek section of Vansant, Virginia, passed away Monday (September26, 2022) in Lebanon, Virginia. Born November 23, 1935 in Fletchers Ridge, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Toy and Rosie McFadden Fletcher. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a graduate of Council High School and was a devoted member of Hurricane Baptist Church. She had formerly been employed as a seamstress at Cardinal Manufacturing, had worked as a substitute teacher, and assisted her husband, J.B., at their store, Wamplers Grocery.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “J.B.” Wampler, one son, Gregory Mark Wampler, four brothers, Claude Fletcher, Ervin Fletcher, Donald Fletcher, and Everett Fletcher, and five sisters, Gay Presley, Francis Shortridge, Orphie Arwood, Emma Lambert, and Dorothy Mae Street. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include one son, Jonathan Wampler and wife, Chandra of Haysi; three grandchildren, Scotty Wampler and wife, JoBeth, Amanda Bugg, and Liah Wampler; seven great-grandchildren, Kathryn Wampler, Joshua Wampler, Alexis Bugg, David Bugg, II, Aaron Bugg, Dominick Conner, and Rozalyn Bugg; great-great-granddaughter, Natalie Musselwhite; special daughter, Tammy Wallace; brothers-in-law, Charlie Street, Don Wampler and wife, Brenda; special nieces, Brenda Street and Betty Jo Street; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Pastor Carl Burmeier and Bro. Don Ratliff officiating. Interment will follow in the Fletcher Cemetery on Fletchers Ridge.
Pallbearers will be Don Ratliff, Eric Wampler, Scotty Wampler, Danny Jackson, Tim Ratliff, and Owen Wampler.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 1 – 2PM at the Honaker Funeral Home.
