Obituary for Freddie Hershel Puckett

Mr. Freddie H. Puckett, age 69, of the Big A Mountain section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Monday (January 10, 2022) in a Roanoke, Virginia hospital. Born May 2, 1952 in Dickenson County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Johnnie and Bertha Mae Lambert Puckett. A member of the UMWA, he retired after twenty-seven years in the coal mines and was a hard worker with the ability to fix anything. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing, but most of all spending time with his family at his cabin in Bath County, Virginia. His two greatest joys in his life were his grandsons, and all their adventures they had together. A member of Bethany Baptist church, he believed in showing kindness and was always ready to help his friends and neighbors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, W.G. Puckett, four sisters, Sally Stanley, Lois Ludowici, Gaye Moats, and Glenda Gaby, his father-in-law, Sammy Murphy, and brother-in-law, Larry Murphy.
Survivors include his wife and best friend of forty-nine years, Betty Murphy Puckett of the home; one daughter, Susan Puckett Hale and husband, Jamie of Kingsport, Tennessee; two grandsons, Noah Hale and Isaac Hale; two brothers, Roger Puckett and wife, Diane, and Joe Puckett; six sisters, Peggy Brooks, Arlene Puckett, Bonnie Runions and husband, Dan, Becky Woods and husband, Dean, Pam Puckett, and Johnnie Thompson and husband, Clinton; special mother-in-law, Virginia Lois Murphy; sisters-in-law, Ivadene Hughes and husband, Donnie and Trish Stinson and husband, Larry; brothers-in-law, Ricky Murphy and wife, Denise, Bobby Murphy and wife, Regina, and Edmond Stanley; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday at Bethany Baptist Church,7523 Finney Road, Honaker, Virginia with Pastor Vonley Pruitt and Bro. Gary Street officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Donnie McCowan, Ferrel Stanley, Anthony Stanley, Samuel Street, Noah Hale, and Isaac Hale.
Honorary pallbearers will be special nephew, Phillip Puckett, and his Big A Mountain friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the Bethany Baptist Church Building Fund , c/o Ivadene Hughes, P.O. Box 532, Honaker, Virginia 24260 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73123.
The family will receive friends at the church after 6:00 PM Thursday.
