Mr. Gary Compton, age 75, passed away Friday (March 3, 2023) at his beloved mountain home in Honaker, Virginia. Born July 11, 1947 in Jewell Valley, Virginia, he was a son of Beulah “Boots” Lester Compton of Honaker and the late Foster D. Compton. A lifelong resident of the area, he was of the Freewill Baptist faith. A veteran of the United States Army, he had served his country in Vietnam. He had formerly been employed as a coal miner for more than thirty years.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jackie Lee “Buck” Compton of Honaker.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Stella Bernice Compton of the home; one son, John Bradley Compton and wife, Robin of Honaker; one daughter, Amy Compton of Lebanon; sisters, Gail Osborne and husband, Stanley of Honaker, Wilma Hess and husband, G.B. of Lebanon, and Sue Brushé, and husband, J.J. of Honaker; five grandchildren, Tessa Presley, Alysia Dye, Randi Dye, Chloe Compton, and Colby Compton; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 PM Thursday at the Compton Cemetery, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Chester Ball officiating.
