Obituary for Gary Lee Woodard

Gary Lee Woodard, age 67 of Abingdon, VA went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 14, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born January 1, 1955 in Buchanan County Virginia, he was the son of Noble and Draper Woodard.

Gary loved the Lord and was of the Christian faith and attended Alvarado Bible Church. Gary was a disabled coal miner. He loved being with family and having large gatherings and Sunday dinners with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed vacations, especially to the beach, gardening, watching westerns, listening to music, and he took great pride in taking care of his yard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Woodward, Darrell Woodard, Harold Woodard, Michael Woodard, Ronald Woodard, and infant brother Ricky Woodard. He is also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Kellis “Ket” Street and several nieces and nephews.

Gary is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jacquetta “Lynn” Woodard; his children, Kim Walker and husband Scott, Richard Woodard and wife Alicia, David Woodard, and Cindy and Matt Viers, whom he considered his; four precious grandchildren whom he loved very much, Ian Walker and companion LinsiAn Loadman-Copeland, Kelse Lane and husband Jason, Payton Walker, and Morgan Woodard. He is also survived by one brother, Larry Woodward and wife, Linda, one sister, Wanda Miller and husband Kermit, his mother-in-law, Bonnie Street; brothers-in-law, Ket “Barney” Street and Kenny Street; sisters-in-law, Betty Woodward, Sarah Woodard, Veronica Woodard and Rita Woodard; a host of nieces and nephews and a special lifelong friend, Ray Coleman.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to his nurse Gabbie Smith, Dr. Yousuf, Dr. Yakoob and the staff at Community Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be conducted at 12:30 PM Wednesday in the McGlothlin Family Cemetery at Skeggs, Virginia with Rev. Jacob Doss officiating. Interment will follow. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at Honaker Funeral Home by 12 Noon to travel in the funeral procession.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Woodward, Larry “Bub” Woodward, Chris Woodard, Wes Woodard, Timmy Proffitt, Brandon Viers, Ket “Barney” Street, Wesley Dorton, and Adam Bostic.

The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home from 6 – 7 PM Tuesday.
