George Jimmy Sparks, Sr. age 75 of Swords Creek, Virginia passed away Tuesday (January 4, 2022) at his home. Born February 19, 1946 in Swords Creek, Virginia, he was a son of the late Floyd Estil and Virginia Elizabeth Sisk Sparks. A lifelong resident of the area, he was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. He was a retired coal miner and a self-employed sawmill operator and timber cutter. In 1998, at the age of 52, he earned his GED and took great pride in finishing his education. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time on the farm and being with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lovalene Dye Sparks; two brothers, infant, Audrey Estil Sparks and Willard Sparks; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carl Steele, Arlin Newberry, Franklin Stevens, Shirley Sparks and Janice Newberry.
Survivors include two children, George Jimmy Sparks, Jr. and Kimberly Michelle Sparks both of Swords Creek, Virginia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruthie Steele, Ruby and Carlis Elkins, Wilma and Dolphus Dye and Sharon and Ronnie Dye; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Phyllis Wallace, Wanda Sue Stevens, James and Vernell White, June Williams and Jackie and Lisa Dye; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Richardson and Rev. Dennis White officiating. Interment will follow in the Leonard Dye Cemetery at Swords Creek, Virginia. The service will be livestreamed on the Honaker Funeral Home Facebook page as well as our website.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Honaker Funeral Home from 1 PM until 2 PM Sunday.
