Mrs. Geraldine Deskins, age 78, of the Stone Branch Road section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Friday (February 18, 2022) in an Abingdon, Virginia hospital. Born February 16, 1944 in Richlands, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Bernie and Sylvia Compton Harris. She had lived most of her life in the area and was of the Christian faith. She always made sure others needs were met, serving as a caregiver for family as well as others in the community. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Perry “J.P.” Deskins, one son, Jackie Deskins, one daughter, Rhonda Katie Cook, and one grandson, J.J. Cook.
Survivors include two children, Rita Gail Deskins and Larry Joe Deskins all of Honaker; six grandchildren, Vanessa Deskins, Lee Deskins, Nick Deskins, Tori Deskins and fiancé, Colby Spencer, Olivia Deskins, and Morgan Deskins; seven great-grandchildren, Lexie Dillon, Skylar Dillon, Hunter Dillon, Kaycen Spencer, Keaton Deskins, Keona Deskins, and Gabe Deskins; two sisters, Ruth Hess and Pearl Deskins; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Russell County Hospital and Johnston Memorial Hospital for the love and care they provided.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Dallas Dye and Rev. Steve Damron officiating. Interment will follow in the Deskins Cemetery at Wysor Valley, Virginia.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home on Wednesday from 12 – 1 PM.
