Obituary for Hampton Paul "Hard Rock" Harris

Mr. Hampton Paul “Hard Rock” Harris, age 79, of Belfast, Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Thursday (January 7, 2021) at his home, surrounded by family. Born March 6, 1941 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Albert and Maggie Sullivan Harris. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of Blackford Community Church. He had most recently been employed as a truck driver for Southwest Disposal. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time on the mountain, cutting firewood and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, David Harris and James Harris and one sister, America Sheppard.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty years, Irene Harris; two daughters, Vivian Harris and husband, Glen and Leshia Ward and husband, Chuck; one son, David Lee “Buck” Harris and wife, Bobbi; three grandchildren, Jeremiah Ward and wife, Tiffany, Keshia Rose and husband, Frankie and Gabriel Harris; two great-grandchildren, Brady Ward and Ryan Ward; two brothers, Ezra Harris and wife, Rose Ellen and William P. Harris; two sisters, Ada Mae Rose and Mary Hallenbeck; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends and church family also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and Rev. Wendell Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Wilson, Rick Osborne, Marlie Ball, Charlie Bostic, James Lambert, Ronald McGlothlin, Gabriel Harris, Jeremiah Ward, Frankie Rose and Joseph Rose.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of New Garden Rescue Squad, Logan Bush, Dean Crabtree and Rick Lester.
The family will receive friends at Honaker Funeral Home from 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
Due to COVID restrictions mandated by the governor, a mask is required. For those unable or uncomfortable attending, the funeral service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page as well as our webpage.
