Obituary for Harley Shortridge
Mr. Harley Shortridge, age 80, of Rowe, Virginia passed away Friday night (June 10, 2022) at University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky following a lengthy illness. Born April 3, 1942 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Ernest and Watie Blankenship Shortridge. A lifelong resident of the area, he was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith and a member of Rowe Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was formerly employed as a coal miner and as the dog warden for Buchanan County Animal Control. He was a loving father to his children, Papaw Harley to his grandkids and was affectionately called Old Papaw by his precious great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-six years, Joyce Ann Street Shortridge; infant daughter, Teresa Ann Shortridge; two brothers, Emory Shortridge and Mike Shortridge and two sisters, Opal Rowe and Geneva Shepard.
Survivors include three children, Timothy Shortridge and wife, Melissa, Richard Shortridge and fiancée, Rita Woodward and Vickie Moore and husband, Tony; five grandchildren, Amanda Strader and husband, Josh, Richelle Thomas and husband, Allen, Morgan Shortridge and fiancé, Jon Meadows, Delaynea Montero and husband, Karlos and Madison Moore; great-grandchildren, Brantley Deel and Allen “A.J.” Thomas, Jr., Deklan Thomas, Spencer Meadows and Jameson Thomas; one sister, Dean Harris; four brothers, Don Shortridge, Robert Shortridge and wife, Mildred, Harold Shortridge and wife, Sandy and Ralph Shortridge and wife, Sue; several nieces and nephews and cousins also survive.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the University of Kentucky Medical Team, especially nurses, Conneshia, April and Joanna.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Shortridge and Rev. Seth Shortridge officiating. Interment will follow in the Rell and Callie Street Cemetery at Rowe, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Allen Thomas, Josh Strader, Karlos Montero, Brantley Deel, Junior Shortridge, Tony Moore and Jon Meadows.
Demp Street and Troy “Peanut” Street will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends after 6 PM Monday at Honaker Funeral Home, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Harley Shortridge Memorial Fund c/o Honaker Funeral Home P.O. Box 1620 Honaker, VA 24260.
