Obituary for Helen Elizabeth Stevens (Ball)

Mrs. Helen E. Ball Stevens, age 77, of Davenport, Virginia, passed away Thursday (December 31, 2020) at a Lebanon, Virginia hospital. Born January 28, 1943 in Council, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Major F. Ball, Sr. and Grace Bostic Ball Keen. She was a lifelong resident of Davenport, a community in which she was proud to call home and was a 1962 graduate of Council High School. She was a member of Bee Pentecostal Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and canning, but most of all spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Elmer Keen, eleven brothers and six sisters.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-seven years, Goebel Stevens of the home; one son, David Stevens of the home; five brothers, Harold Ball and wife, Alice of Orlando, Clyde Ball and wife, Burma of Council, Dee Ball and wife, Hilda of Roanoke, Jack Ball and wife, Lorene of Bee, and Don Keen and wife, Joan of Oakwood; three sisters, Phyllis Sheets of Tazewell, Barbara Davidson and husband, Bimbo of Council, and Joyce Miller and husband, Paul of Norton; brothers-in-law, Granvelle Stevens and James W. Ball; sisters-in-law, Annie Ball and Norma Cook; several nieces, nephews, in-laws, aunts, uncles, and many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Dee Ball, Rev. Roy Lee Wilson, and Rev. Gary Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Darin McGlothlin, Greg Ball, Chris Davidson, Craig Keen, Jackie Ball, and Larry Cook.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Bruce Freeman, Rick Boyd, Shawn Keen, Ron Ball, Dean Deskins, Terry McGlothlin, Aaron McGlothlin, Homer Gene Stevens, James W. Ball, Jeff Ball, Grasson Deel, and Michael Thompson.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Monday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 PM with Rev. Kevin Lowe and Rev. Lonnie Fuller officiating.
Due to COVID restrictions mandated by the governor, a mask is required. For those unable or uncomfortable attending, the service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page as well as our webpage.
