Mr. Jackie Lee Miller, age 87, of the Lynn Springs section of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Sunday (February 5, 2023) at his home. Born May 19, 1935 in Swords Creek, Virginia, he was a son of the late Erskin D. and Maudie Boyd Miller. He had lived most of his life in the area, was a 1953 graduate of Honaker High School and was drafted into the United States Army in 1958. He was a coal miner, having worked in the mines for thirty-nine years, retiring from Jewell Smokeless in 1997 with twenty-six years of service. He attended Dye Presbyterian Chapel in Punkin Center. He loved singing in church and bluegrass music. He enjoyed watching ballgames and was an avid Virginia Tech fan. A devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, his greatest joys came from spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James C. and Louvenia Whited.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-six years, Judith Whited Miller of the home; five daughters, Lisa Slate and husband, Raymond of Swords Creek, Lena Murphy and husband, Sam of Cedar Bluff, Jill Witt and husband, Tim of Lebanon, Sarah “Sam” Brown and husband, Bill of Honaker, and Jacqueline Helton and husband, Bryon of Lebanon; one brother, Ronald Miller and wife, Nancy; ten grandchildren, Andrea McBride and husband, Scott, Raeanne Huff and husband, Joe, Ethan Witt and wife, Taylor, Chelsea McGlothlin and husband, Aaron, James Crabtree, Caitlin Bailey and husband, Tyler, Emily Helton, Jacob Brown, Nicholas Helton, and Olivia Mullins and husband, Stephen; great-grandchildren, Raelynn Huff, Julie McBride, Beau Bailey, Luke McGlothlin, Beckett Bailey, and Tatum Witt; sisters-in-law, Betty Cole, Karene Webb,, Nancy Miller, and Alita Whited; special nephew, Barry Miller and wife, Diane; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia, with Rev. Dickie Plaster and Rev. Nathan Harper officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be his sons-in-law.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Wednesday.
