Obituary for Jackie Derrill Perkins

Mr. Jackie Derrill Perkins, age 75, of Abingdon, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Sunday (April 11, 2021 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. Born February 19, 1946 in Davenport, Virginia, he was a son of the late Joe and Ollie Perkins. A 1964 graduate of Council High School, he went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era as a E-5 Drill Sargent at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He had served as Pastor at Gents Chapel Church in Honaker during the 80’s and 90’s before moving to Abingdon, where he attended Spoon Gap Free Will Baptist Church. He was retired from the Department of Labor Mine Safety and Health Administration as a Federal Mine Inspector and had previously been employed at Island Creek Beatrice Mine and other small mine operations. He enjoyed fishing and cutting wood, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Grayson Perkins and one sister, Evelue Cox.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-five years, Joyce Perkins; two sons, David Perkins and wife, Kimberly, and Gregory Perkins and wife, Valery; two brothers, Jerry Perkins and wife, Betty, and Clayton Perkins and wife, Ann; two sisters, Joe Ann Compton and Audrey Harris and husband, Kenneth; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Herbert Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Steven Harris, Roger Perkins, Todd Perkins, Delmar Ball, Nathan Ball, and Isaac Perkins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Perkins, Joshua Ball, and Logan Charles
Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 – 3 PM.
