Mr. James “Louie” Taylor, age 78, of the Lewis Creek section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Monday (February 15, 2021) at his home. Born March 29, 1942 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Carl H. and Virgie Proffitt Taylor. He was formerly a coal miner, having been employed at Island Creek Coal Company VP #3 and was a member of the UMWA. He attended Hubbard Chapel and Worship Center and had a very strong work ethic. He enjoyed baking and candy making to share with others, but most of all spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Gene Taylor, Marvin Taylor, and Billy Taylor, and four sisters, Nancy Lou Taylor, Marie Frances Horn, and two infants.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-eight years, Harvaleen Taylor; two children, Troy Barker and wife, Peggy, and Melissa Barker; six grandchildren, Autumn Stapleton, Bryan Barker and wife, Becky, Thomas Barker and wife, Jamie, Logan Barker and fiancé, Bryant, Tasha Sanders and husband, Ty, and Chelsea Harmon and husband, Mike; one sister, Anna Ruth Rutrough and husband, Roy; two brothers, Jack Taylor and wife, Diane, and Lawrence Taylor and wife, Beverly; six great-grandchildren, one expected great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. David Perkins and Rev. Lenora Vanover officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Due to COVID restrictions mandated by the governor, a mask is required. For those unable or uncomfortable attending, the funeral service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page as well as our webpage.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Thursday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hubbard Chapel, 582 Hubbard Town Road, Honaker, Virginia 24260.
