Obituary for J.C. Stevens

Mr. J.C. Stevens, age 89, of the Big A Mountain section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Thursday (February 11, 2021) in Lebanon, Virginia. Born January 19, 1932 in Sandy Ridge, he was a son of the late Grady and Bertha Rasnake Stevens. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a retired coal miner, having been employed with Clinchfield Coal after thirty-eight years and a member of the UMWA. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he enjoyed farming and mowing, but most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Freeda Dotson, and three brothers, Dwain Stevens, Kenneth Stevens, and infant, Jerry Stevens.
Survivors include his wife of forty-two years, Carolyn Stevens of the home; one son, Joe Kendrick and wife, Jennifer of Honaker; two grandchildren, Emily Kendrick and Bryson Kendrick; and one sister, Virginia Lois Murphy of Honaker; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Jeff Kinder, Rev. Larry Stinson, and Rev. Edward Tiller officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, Virginia.
Due to COVID restrictions mandated by the governor, a mask is required. For those unable or uncomfortable attending, the funeral service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page as well as our webpage.
Pallbearers will be Rick Crabtree, Scott Honaker, Dalton Honaker, Bill Whitt, Kenny Horton, Branson Horton, and Brian Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Murphy, Bobby Murphy, Gerald Stevens, Mike Stevens, Ronnie Stevens, Bill Ahrens, Brandon Ahrens, Travis Musick, Linden Deel, Jarred Hughes, Daniel Baldwin and Randall Hess.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Friday.
