Jerl Tiller, age 69, of the Sullivan Branch section of Bee, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (January 4, 2023). Born August 25, 1953 in Richlands, Virginia, he was a son of the late Curtis and Marie Owens Tiller. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a retired coal miner, having been employed by Clinchfield Coal Company. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. When his health permitted, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Lora Tiller Jackson and two sisters, Peggy Owen and Norma Lawson.
Survivors include his wife of almost fifty years, Jeanie Tiller of the home; one son, Ron Tiller and wife, Tammy of Bristol, Virginia; grandsons, Kainan Jackson and Ryland Beeler; siblings, Clell Tiller, Ed Tiller, Wayne Tiller, Danny Tiller, Kathy Breeding, Vivian Tiller and his twin sister, Pearl Tiller; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Tiller and Rev. Jackie Keen officiating. UMWA Honors will be provided by UMWA Sub-28 Chaplain Corp. Interment will follow in the Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Chris Matherly, Ryland Beeler, Kainan Jackson, Michael Charles, Rannie Breeding, Bug Rasnake, Vernal Lee Boyd, Vernal Lee Boyd, II and Don Owens.
The family will receive friends at Honaker Funeral Home from 1 PM until 2 PM Sunday.
