Jervey Harlin McGlothlin, Sr., age 78, of the Back Valley section of Russell County, Virginia left us to cherish his sweet memory on November 9, 2022 at his home. Born in Russell County, Virginia on July 6, 1944, he was a son of the late L.E. and Opal McGuire McGlothlin. He enjoyed working in his little shop, making crafts, sitting on his back porch waving at friends as they passed by. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends and everyone was his friend because he never met a stranger. He was always ready to help if anyone was in need.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years and childhood sweetheart, Orabelle Sykes McGlothlin, who really was his best friend; one daughter, Barbara Hart of Bluffton, South Carolina; two sons, Jervey , Jr. and wife, Susie of Snow Camp, North Carolina and Michael and wife, Kimberly that lives next door; four grandsons, Jessie, Jervey, III, Jonathan and Brandon McGlothlin; two granddaughters, Delaney and Madison Hart; ten great-grandchildren; one sister “Darling” of Virginia Beach, Virginia and brother, Ronald McGlothlin and wife, Sandy of the Back Valley section of Cleveland, Virginia; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 6 PM Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday at McGlothlin Family Cemetery on Back Valley Road near the home with Rev. Danny Rhea officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth McGlothlin, Alex McGlothlin, Shannon McGlothlin, Shannon Smith, Ronnie McGlothlin and Tony Carrier.
The family will receive friends at Honaker Funeral Home from 4 PM until 6 PM Monday.
