Obituary for Joann Cassell (Fields)
Joann Fields Cassell, age 86 of Honaker, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Friday (May 12, 2023) at Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol, Tennessee. Born April 10, 1937 in Honaker, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Maude Alice Cox Fields. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of Duty Church of God. She enjoyed playing Bingo and socializing with the residents of Maple Grove, where she had resided for the past four years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, Rev. James Cassell; two sons, Charles Allen Cassell and Bradley Scott Cassell; sister, Evelyn Horn and two brothers, Willie Fields, Jr. and Robert Fields. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include her grandson, Brandon Cassell and wife, Courtney of Honaker, Virginia; great-granddaughter, Annabelle Cassell; former daughter-in-law, Kim Breeding and husband, Jeff; special nephews, John Fields and wife, Cathy and Scott Cox; special nieces, Diana Cutchins and Pam Lease.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of Maple Grove and Select Specialty Hospital of Bristol for the wonderful care they provided and to all those who have prayed and supported them during Joann’s illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brandon Cassell and Sis. Connie Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joann Cassell Memorial Fund c/o Honaker Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1620 Honaker, Virginia 24260.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
