Obituary for JP Hess

JP Hess, age 61, formerly of Russell County, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home in Bristol, Tennessee on Thursday, February 6th, 2020 after fighting with complicated black lung for several years. Born April 21, 1958, in Richlands, Va, he was a son of the late Bennie and Edith Clark Hess.
JP was a coal miner, who was respected for his skills as a roof bolter, for 34 years. He was a humble man with a heart full of God’s love. He was a devoted Christian and a loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and many other outdoor activities as long as he was with his family. He always enjoyed a good game of Rook as well. JP was a family man, who loved his wife and family unconditionally with an immeasurable amount of love. While he was a man of few words, he was a jokester that always found joy in bringing smiles to those around him.
He is survived by the love of his life of 42 years, Sandra Hess. Children who he was so proud of, daughter Chrissy Walch and her husband Nathan, son Joshua Hess and his wife, Kristy. Grandchildren, who were the light of his day, Grayson Moore, Madison Walch, Gavin Walch, John Phipps, Levi Phipps, Abigail Phipps, and Natalee Hess. He is survived by his loving furbaby Sampson, who he loved like his own child. JP is survived by his brother Hassell Clark (Carol), sister Joann Street, brother Claude Hess (Fran), brother James “Louie” Hess (Linda), and sister Wanda Meadows (Kirby). He is also survived by many nephews and nieces. Family was everything to him.
He was so much to so many, and we will all miss him dearly and have to figure out life without him. We have peace in knowing that he is no longer suffering and walking the streets of gold with our Heavenly Father.
