Obituary for Judy Ann Mathis (Breeding)

Mrs. Judy Ann Breeding Mathis, age 79, of the Big A Mountain section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Friday (December 17, 2021) in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born December 18, 1941 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Tivis and Lottie E. Compton Breeding. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a 1960 graduate of Council High School and attended Sullivan Branch Pentecostal Church. She had formerly been employed as a cook at Council High School, had worked at the sewing factory, and was owner and operator of Mathis Upholstery. She loved to sew, shop, and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Paul Edward “Eddie” Mathis, brothers, Tivis Breeding, Jr. and Ronald Breeding, and sisters, Thelma Deel, Ilene Rasnake, and Beulah Duty.
Survivors include three children, Jeffrey Mathis and wife, Jody, Michael Mathis and wife, Tammy, and Alicia Owens and husband, Larry; six grandchildren, Megan Mathis-Gilbert and husband, Jeff, Hannah Barton and husband, Jake, Justin Mathis and wife, Kayla, Emily Holley, Madison Mathis and fiancé, Peyton Edwards, and Jalisa Mathis; step-grandson, Ryan Owens and wife, Chelsea; great-grandchildren, Lincoln Mathis, Hollan Mathis, Eleanor Gilbert, and Calum Mathis; step-great-grandson, Ryker Owens; sisters, Wanda Sullivan and husband, Lee, Loretta Bostic and husband, Herman, Betty Bostic, and Brenda Hale; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Jeff Tiller and Rev. Gary Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow in the Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Justin Mathis, Jeff Gilbert, Jake Barton, Peyton Edwards, Randall Duty, David Bostic, and Ryan Owens.
Honorary pallbearers will be Herman Bostic, Lee Sullivan, Denver Sutherland, Roger Rasnake, Duane Rasnake, James Rasnake, Richard Duty, Rodney Duty, David Arrington, and Rick Bostic.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home on Monday from 1 – 2 PM.
