Obituary for Kala Nichole Artrip
Kala “Kate” Nichole Artrip, age 39, of Rosedale, Virginia, passed away Monday (May 10, 2021) at the home of her grandmother from a heart attack. She was born April 12, 1982 in Lebanon, Virginia. A class of 2000 graduate of Honaker High School, she went on to further her education receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from University of Phoenix in 2009. She had a gift for wanting to help others and had been employed in the Human services field for many years. She enjoyed cooking, taking care of her fur babies, but most of all spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Junior and Sylvia Shortt, paternal grandfather, Junior Artrip, step-mother, Julie Artrip, uncles and aunts, James Allen Berry and Linda, Dave Artrip, Roger Shortt, Willis Shortt, and Barbara Shortt, and her fur baby, Tazz.
Survivors include her mother, Connie McFarlane and husband, Joe of Cedar Bluff, Virginia; her father, Ricky Dale Artrip, Sr. and Linda Browning of Honaker; one brother, Ricky Dale Artrip, Jr. of Honaker; two sisters, Jessica McFarlane of Cedar Bluff and Gina Bucklen and husband, Luke of Rosedale; paternal grandmother, Norma Jean Vance of Rosedale; nieces, Autumn Artrip, Abby Deel, Addison Deel, and Lily Bucklen; nephew, Paxton Bucklen; special aunts and uncles, Michelle and Mike Artrip, Scott “Frog” Artrip, Marvin Shortt and Cathy, Steve Shortt, and Linda Shortt; goddaughter, Riley Hart; special friends, Kristi Burks McConnell, Amanda Hart, and Karen Crouse Carrier; and her special fur baby, Alfred.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia, with Rev. Jeff Kinder officiating. Interment will follow in the Shortt Cemetery on Horton Ridge, Virginia.
Due to COVID restrictions mandated by the governor, a mask is required. For those unable or uncomfortable attending, the funeral service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page as well as our webpage.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Artrip, Scott Artrip, Blake Artrip, Kenneth Hart, Waylon Hart, and Dallas Nick Burks.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Watson, Tony Shortt, Steve Shortt, and Marvin Shortt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kala Artrip Memorial Fund, c/o Honaker Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1620, Honaker, VA 24260.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home from 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
