Mr. Kenneth David Owens, Sr., age 76, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (February 12, 2020) at his home. Born July 8, 1944 in Honaker, Virginia, he was a son of the late William McKinley and Mae Miller Owens. A lifelong resident of the area, he had proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a retired coal miner having been employed by Consol Coal Company at Island Creek Coal #2, 6, & 8, and was a member of the UMWA Local 2232. He had a strong work ethic and enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He was proud to be working the land his family had owned for one hundred thirteen years. A member of the Copper Ridge Baptist Church, he had been baptized in 2015. Kenneth was a kind, gentle, loving soul with a wonderful sense of humor and a positive outlook on life. He loved the Lord and his family more than anything.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Sue Hubbard, and brothers-in-law, Roger Hubbard and wife, Mildred, and Tom Hubbard.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty-nine years, Joy Owens of the home; one son, David Owens and wife, Jennifer of Honaker; one sister, Clara Nell Partin; brother, Park Dean Owens and Regina; brothers-in-law, Willis Hubbard and wife, Sharon, Darrell “Bo” Hubbard and wife, Teresa, Larry Hubbard, Johnny Hubbard and wife, Christine, Ralph Hubbard and wife, Sherry, and L.D. Hubbard and Novella; sister-in-law, Cathy Hubbard; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Rick Gibson, Rev. Duane Musick, and Rev. James Tiller officiating. Interment will follow in the Owens Cemetery at Honaker, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Willis Rowe, Luke Richardson, Shannon Compton, Jonas Hubbard, Dylan Cox, Craig McGlothlin, Jody Hubbard and Jonathan Hubbard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wendell Hart, Gary Hart, C.B. Yates, Randall Hillman, K.D. Cook, Tom Richardson, Russell Griffith, Martin Griffith, Larry Miller and brothers-in-law.
The family will receive friends at Honaker Funeral Home from 1 PM Monday until the funeral hour.
