Obituary for Laura Deel (Penley)

Mrs. Laura Penley Deel, age 94, of the Big A Mountain section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Tuesday (October 11, 2022) in a Bristol, Tennessee hospital. Born October 4, 1928 in Russell County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John Floyd and Lydia Harris Penley. A lifelong resident of the area, she was of the Baptist faith and attended Word of Victory Fellowship. She was a hard-working individual who took pride in taking care of the needs of her family both inside the home and out on the farm. She enjoyed the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, farming and fishing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Lee “Jack” Deel, Sr.; two children, Jane Neverosky and Michael Deel; grandsons, Chase Ball and Brad Street; six siblings, Ervin Penley, Stanford Penley, Ruth Penley, Carrie Johnson, Marie Deel, and Ethel Estep; and two sons-in-law, Randy Dye and Bob Neverosky. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include five children, Elmer Lee Deel, Jr. and wife, Joann of Belfast, Curtis Deel and wife, Kay of Tennessee, Debbra Harris and husband, Sherman of Richlands, Barbara Dye of Honaker, and Alvin Deel and Mary Ellen Peck of Honaker; daughter-in-law, Brenda Deel of Honaker; eighteen grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the PACE program, especially Marsha Mitchell, Bobby McCall and Linda Wood and the nursing staff of Bristol Regional Medical Center ICU, special nurses Haylee Dye and Laura Marie Hall.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Rod Wicker officiating. Interment will follow in the Deel Cemetery near the home.
Pallbearers will be Joey Dye, Frank Deel, Dustin Deel, Dennis Honaker, Jaxon Dye, Kaden Honaker, and Anthony Deel.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Harris, Wayne Street, Justin Harris, Wayne Penley, Shawn Harris, T.C. Street, Derek Street, Jacob Deel and Robert Neverosky.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Thursday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
