Linda Roseanne Childress was born at Hurricane Creek, Virginia on December 21, 1951, the daughter of the late Lora T. and Ronkeith S. Childress. She remained in Buchanan County until her death on December 18, 2021. Linda was a quiet and humble person. She would often do without something or not ask for help because she didn’t want to bother anyone. Her passion was Jesus Christ and studying the Word of God. She would spend many hours reading, studying, and praying while taking volumes of notes. She enjoyed teaching at church and Sunday school. She was a member of Swamp Church on Hurricane Creek and had been for many years. If the doors were open for service, Linda was most likely there.
If there was anything Linda took pride in, it was her son Kevin and grandson Luke. She made sure to tell them both often. Her treasures on Earth were few, but she is now dancing on streets of gold in the presence of Jesus.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her sisters, Peg Compton and Gay Presley and brother, Hurshel Childress.
She is survived by her son, Rory Kevin Childress and wife Sandra of Amherst, VA and grandson Luke Childress of Amherst, VA. Three sisters: Sue Ray of Stafford, VA; Jean Tiller and husband, Jerl of Bee, VA; and Patsy Sutherland and husband Randy of Bee, VA. Two brothers: Harvey Childress and wife, Charlotte of Hurricane Creek, VA; Bob and wife, Bonnie Childress of Combs Ridge, VA; sister-in-law Velma Childress of Hurricane Creek, VA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 Noon Wednesday at the Swamp Church in the Hurricane Creek section of Vansant, Virginia with Rev. Jackie Keen officiating. Interment will follow in Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain.
Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.
