Mrs. Mary Ellen Hess Miller, age 91, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Sunday (January 8, 2023) in Abingdon, Virginia. Born June 20, 1931 in Russell County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Dave and Minnie Honaker Hess. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of East Lebanon Freewill Baptist Church. A loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she enjoyed gardening, cooking and cleaning, but most of all spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of seventy-six years, Easley Miller; six brothers, David Junior Hess, Arthur Hess, Irvin Hess, Clarence Hess, Clyde Hess, and Fay Hess; and sisters, Dorothy Hess, Cordelia Combs, Elizabeth “Betty” Hinderliter, and Evangeline Ratliff.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Fuller and husband, the late Larry Fuller of Rosedale; three sons, Cecil Miller and wife, Rachel of Rosedale, Earl Miller and wife, Denise of Swords Creek, and Gerald Miller and wife, Gayle of Bristol, Virginia; one sister, Audrey Lou Hess of Illinois; eight grandchildren, Jeff Miller, Tonya Maxfield, Lynette Compton, Janette Miller, Heath Miller, Amanda Meade, Chance Miller, and Zachary Miller; two step-granddaughters, Judy Jordan and Sally Shupe; great-great-granddaughter, Parker Smith; nineteen great-grandchildren and four step-great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Steve Perkins officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 PM to go in procession
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 5:00 PM Tuesday.
