Obituary for Mary Frances Taylor (Hess)

Mrs. Mary Frances Taylor, age 90, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Saturday (April 17, 2021) at her home. Born April 4, 1931 in Honaker, she was a daughter of the late Beverly and Josie Owens Hess. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a 1948 graduate of Honaker High School. She loved to sew and had formerly been employed as a seamstress by Honaker Mills and Lebanon Apparel. A devoted Christian, she was a member of Reed’s Valley Church and attended Blackford Community Church. She exemplified the description of a virtuous woman in Proverbs chapter 31. Her love and devotion to her own family could not be rivaled, and she served as a mother figure to more children than just her own. Cooking for her family and others was just one of the many ways she expressed her love and not one person ever left her home hungry. Mary Frances enjoyed sharing the Gospel message through song. For many years, she sang with the Russell County Harmonieers, a group made up of Mary Frances, her husband, Dewey and Thurman and Terry Honaker. The joy of the Lord was her strength and she was a witness to God’s faithfulness to everyone she met.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Taylor and Jim Huffman, one daughter, Rita Watson, one son, Leonard “Leo” Taylor, three sisters, Bertha Lee Taylor, Tella Sue Dasher, and Ethel Mae Lister, and several nieces and nephews.
Survivors include two daughters, Audrey “Shady” Key and Barbara Cox of Honaker; three sons, James “Jim” Taylor and wife, Nancy, William Barry Taylor and wife, Debra, and Raymond “Toad” Taylor all of Honaker; twelve grandchildren, Maria, Dennis, John, Patricia, Beverly, Joyell, Chad, Regina, Andy, J.D., Brandy, and Michael; step-son, Wayne Huffman; siblings, Burke Hess, Curtis Hess, Earl Hess, Charlie Hess, Gladys May, Ruba Slate, and Ruth Hale; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Guy Harris and Rev. Jeff Kinder officiating. Entombment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Lebanon, Virginia.
Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.
Due to COVID restrictions mandated by the governor, a mask is required. For those unable or uncomfortable attending, the funeral service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page as well as our webpage.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Monday.
