Mrs. Norma Gay Boyd Potter, age 77, of Tazewell, Virginia, passed away Monday (February 13, 2023) in a Tazewell hospital. Born March 18, 1945 in Council, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late George E. “Kenneth” and Hattie Victoria Tiller Boyd. A lifelong resident of the Southwest Virginia area, she had formerly been employed as a school Bus driver for Buchanan and Tazewell counties. She attended Little Prater Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, decorating, and tending to her garden, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandsons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hersel Potter, two sisters, Beverly Boyd and Shirley Boyd Matney, and one brother, E.G. Boyd.
Survivors include two daughters, Nawana Thomas and husband, Steve of Thomasville, North Carolina and Hope Proffitt and husband, Charles of Gainesville, Virginia; two grandsons, Connor Proffitt and Chase Proffitt; one sister, Vicky Boyd; two brothers, Vernal Boyd and wife, Thelma and Mike Boyd and wife, Robin; father of her children, Paul Bailey; special friends, Tom and Ann Keene; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Claypool Hill, Virginia with Minister Mike Rife officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Vernal Boyd, Mike Boyd, Steve Thomas, Charles Proffitt, Terry Matney, Shawn Matney, and Vernal Boyd II.
