Obituary for Patricia Groce

Patricia Groce, age 63, of the Lynn Springs section of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (March 18, 2020) in an Abingdon, Virginia hospital. Born June 4, 1956 in Richlands, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late William “Bill” Jones and Violet Virginia Spencer Kitts. She spent her early life in the area, moving to northern Virginia for sixteen years and then back to southwest Virginia in 1996. She was a member of Ivy Springs Baptist Church. She had formerly been employed as a CNA, worked in the Washington Post Warehouse and had lastly been employed as a taxi driver for Mercy Ambulance. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her black lab, Spirit.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Ellen Vance, niece, Rhonda Vance, and the father of her children, Donald “Donnie” Shifflett.
Survivors include four children, Walter “Bo” Groce and wife, Deborah of Fredericksburg, Matt Shifflett and wife, Randetta Fuller of Abingdon, Marcus Shifflett and girlfriend, Stephine Jessee of Richlands, and Kristina Dye and husband, Jamie of Swords Creek; grandchildren, Jesse “Chase” Landrum, Brayden Shifflett, Maddox Shifflett, Michael Shifflett, and Emmalin Shifflett; one brother, Doug Kitts and wife, Dana of Honaker, Virginia; two sisters, Kathy Kitts of Richlands and Susan Bond and husband, Jr. of Swords Creek; special friend, Cricket Browning and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Phillip Cook and Rev. Tommy Dye officiating. Interment will follow in the Hess Cemetery at Miller Creek, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Scotty Bond, Andy Kitts, Robert Vance, Chris Kitts, Brandon Helton and Richard Fry.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Mercy Ambulance Service and New Garden Rescue Squad.
The family will receive friends at Honaker Funeral Home after 6 – 8 PM Friday.
