Obituary for Peggy Sue Hess (Miller)

Peggy Sue Miller Hess, age 79, of the Miller Creek section of Swords Creek, Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Sunday (July 16, 2023) after a lengthy illness. Born September 9, 1943 in Miller Creek, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Carlos James “Pete” and Gaynelle “Nellie” Lockhart Miller. She had spent most of her life in Swords Creek and was a member of Miller Creek Community Church. She was a prayer warrior and woman of great faith. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially fishing and going camping in Bland.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Miller and one sister, Ola Gay Strouth.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-two years, Rev. Leo Hess; three children, Nelson Hess, Tommy Lynn Hess and wife, Tammy and Sandy Hess and husband, Danny all of Swords Creek, Virginia; five grandchildren, Dustin Shortt, Joshua Hess, Channing Hubbard and wife, Morgan, Nikki Hess and Adam Hess; step-grandson, Nathan Hurt and wife, Angie; two great-grandchildren, Makayla Hess and Irelynn Hess; two step-great-grandchildren, Abbigail Hurt and Hunter Hurt; siblings, Dewayne Miller and wife, Ona Mae, Judy Hess, David Miller and wife, Sandy and Betty Keen and husband, Dean; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Yul Miller and Rev. Jerry Grogan officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Channing Hubbard, Dustin Shortt, Joshua Hess, Adam Hess, Vince Miller, and Dr. Scottie Miller.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mitchell Hess, Ricky Strouth, Lee Saunders and Nathan Hurt.
The family will receive friends after 6 PM Wednesday at Honaker Funeral Home, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7 PM.
