Obituary for Phyllis Ann Tiller (Hess)
Mrs. Phyllis Ann Hess Tiller, age 81, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away Thursday (April 27, 2023) at the home of her daughter in Pennington Gap, Virginia. Born September 26, 1941 in Russell County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Billie and Beulah Mae Owens Hess. She had formerly been employed as a bookkeeper for the Buchanan County Public Library and had also been a bus driver for Buchanan County Schools and did the evening trade school run. She enjoyed reading, fishing, and playing cards.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Fayrene Anderson, Ollie Smith, Rosa Lee Tolliver, Billy Gene Hess, and Richard Allen Hess.
Survivors include four children, Larry Everette Tiller of Council, Annette Elaine Stapleton of Pennington Gap, Phyllis Dana Lester and husband, Michael of Council, and Joshua Shawn Tiller and wife, Ashley of Abingdon; four grandchildren, Kayla Paige Stapleton, Alexandria Drew Tilley and husband, Preston, Spencer Faith Lester, and Christopher Everette Tiller and wife, Kayla; five great-grandchildren, Ivan Bentley Stapleton, Corbin Shawn Tiller, Anson Jhile Tiller, Ivona Brielle Stapleton, and Dominic Alexander Ryder Tilley; one sister, Bonnie Hart of Honaker; two brothers, Gary Wayne Hess of Honaker and Kenneth Alvin Hess of Richlands; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday in the Hess Cemetery on Chestnut Ridge, Virginia with Rev. Edward Tiller officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 1:30 PM to go in procession.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
