Obituary for Rema Eleanor Harris (Compton)

Mrs. Rema Eleanor Compton Harris, age 62, of the Campbell Hollow Road section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Monday (March 28, 2022) in an Abingdon, Virginia hospital. Born August 29, 1959 in Richlands, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Kinzer Murphy and Gladys Hess Compton. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a 1977 graduate of Council High School and a member of Venia Chapel Church. She had formerly been employed as office manager at Farm Service Agency for twenty-three years and Farmers Home Administration for two years. Her family meant the world to her; although she never had children of her own, she loved her nieces and nephews fiercely. Rema truly had a heart of gold. Whether she had known someone for twenty years or twenty minutes, she made them feel as if they’d been lifelong friends. Her genuine love and compassion toward others left a lasting impression on everyone she came in contact with.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Ball and infant Nora Ellen Compton, father-in-law, Harmon Harris, mother-in-law, Virgie Harris, brothers-in-law, Doug Harris, Don Harris, Dallas Harris, Dennis Harris, Ryland Ball and Earl Ball and sisters-in-law, Kathleen Price, Jewell Densmore, and Dorothy Duty.
Survivors include her husband of forty-one years, Danny B. Harris; three siblings, Faye McGlothlin and husband, Rean, Annie Ball, and Raymond Compton and wife, Joyce; sisters-in-law, Norma Jean Vance, Patsy Herring and husband, Larry, Sue C. Glorioso and husband, Angelo; a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Guy Harris and Rev. Mike McGlothlin officiating. Interment will follow in the Hess Cemetery at Venia, Virginia.
